  1. Awesome will be attempting it this weekend... Will I need to hoist the car up to do this job or can I do it all from the engine bay ?? Anyone know of a good DIY guide?? Cheers
  2. http://www.r33skylineproject.co.uk/project_blown_turbo_mani_gasket.htm Looks like the link above with same story 2 studs missing... is it an easy job to replace studs and gasket seems easy enuff? undo bolts put new gasket in and tighten or am I missing something? cheers dudes
  3. Ok cool so it should be an easy fix then? u guys are talking about the gasket on the dump pump where the 2 bolts are missing?
  4. Hey guys, I've got a 1996 r33 skylines series 2 purchased the car about 2 months ago now and nothing but grief from the start, coilpacks went so I changed to splitfires replaced plugs to iridiums, then it was running sweet for a while then my clutch went and now my current problem... When giving enough acceleration to boost, when spooling up you can hear this strong clicking sound coming from the engine bay, you can hear it very faintly on idle but really only when I'm boosting, if I lay off the boost you can hear the clicking very faintly but hardly noticeable, anyways I suspect it's definitely turbo related maybe the turbo is on the way out? Or maybe a gasket has completely worn or something is loose? I've had a look at a few things, first I thought it mite have been my aftermarket boost controller solenoid clicking so I removed that and still no fix, took the heat shield off the turbo and the dump pipe doesn't look in great shape and it only has 2 out of 4 bolts on it.. Turbo definitely isn't completely gone as I'm still making boost and haven't really seen much performance loss.. I was thinking maybe a damaged turbine blade but those things doin at like 14rpm so it would have shattered by now. Currently bidding on a turbo on eBay anyways to have one there if it is going to go.. But what's ur thoughts guys?? Specs: 1996 r33 series 2 Turbo tech boost controller Pod filter Hi fllow cam exhaust Bov venting back to afm And that's about it! Fairly stock Thanks for the replies in advance guys much appreciated.
  5. Cheers for replies guys, it was the clutch it's now absolutely gone and it's at the mechanic he's quoted me 530$ for standard clutch and install, but said if it's the flywheel will be when in the 1000$ mark, do you guys reckon I should maybe chuck a heavy duty clutch in it and anyone know if the price difference is much??? Also anyone know any good cheap mechanics in adelaide I could try and go see. Ben with the bov to atmosphere do you think this will be causing me to chew more fuel to ?? Cos at the moment with a little bit of spirited driving here and there I'm getting 300km when the fuel gauge line just hits the top of empty, haven't had the balls to let it drop any lower as I've never seen a low fuel light on my car?? Do the 33"s have a fuel light ? Cheers in advance guys
  6. Hey guys, recently replaced my plugs with iridiums and coil packs with splitfires and my 1996 r33 ran great for about 2 tanks. Now Im not sure of my problem but when I accelerate hard and go up the revs quickly at about 3000RPM the car seems like it slips out of gear or something it just revs a little higher with no power then bang a hit of power. Not sure if my clutch is on the way or something but it still feels firm and finds gears quite well. Don't know if its of relevance but just lately when I push the clutch pedal down it creaks and it never used to do this. Im not sure if I have a clutch problem or maybe one of my splitfire coils is blowing out spark (although they have just been put in the car)?. When I crawl up gears slowly it seems fine, its only when I go to really boost hard I get these little slips. Its progressively getting worse and worse now. Car specs: 1996 r33 skyline Splitfire coil packs (they are secondhand and just recently installed) iridium spark plugs pod filter hi flow cat exhaust aftermarket BOV to atmosphere boost controller Thanks in advance guys for any opinions really need help!
  7. I started another thread cos im new on here and have no idea how to get my other thread back up to the recent threads so it can be viewed or else its on like the 15th page
  8. Hey guys, Ive made a previous thread here so check for full story....http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/442374-r33-some-kind-of-ignition-problem/ Took my coils out on the weekend and the plugs... coils don't have any visible cracks or damage.. in cylinders 2 and 3 ontop of the plugs was a bunch gunk which looked like a mix of oil and water, im guessing from when I washed the engine bay as the seal of my rocker cover were basically non existent??... cleaned the gunk out the top of the plugs and removed the plugs there was no oil or anything in the cylinders but the plugs most of them were horribly black and looked very fouled... just waiting on my iridiums to come and I will fit them then tape up the coil packs and hope for the best as I cannot afford splitfires right now... my question is guys do you think my coils are finished or just the gunk (oil and water) ontop of the 2 plugs was causing the coils to not do their job properly? ive let the coils dry out now for a few days any other recommendations?. Cheers in advance guys!

  10. Thanks a lot guys for the replies! decided to go with yellow jackets personally just because I wont be running anything over 8psi and not looking for a huge amount of performance moreso reliability and something at a decent price! Also yellow jackets give a 2 year warranty so that sold me a happy customer, should be taking the coils out this weekend and having a look will let you guys now what happens. Cheers
  11. Cheers sleptema! Ye I'll get the coils out and getem dry this weekend, should I jus let them air dry or is there any other method ?? Also as your saying your coils were never the same is it really necessarily to get splitfires?? Or can I is get some cheaper aftermarkets? As I will only be running 7psi and can't see that I'll be doing too many more mods to it. Cheers for the help mate!
  12. Cheers for taking the time to comment back guys.... Yes I know having the boost at 14PSI is stupid and I did begin tweaking before I had this ignition problem, at the moment I tweaked high boost to about 9-10 PSI where it still had a few flat spots but only at higher revs, so im thinking maybe boost at 7-8PSI will be perfect?? does anyone know what boost you should be running for economy and performance just on the stock engines?.... I washed the engine bay at the car wash, first sprayed it with the engine cleaner stuff then let it sit for a few minutes, then high pressure soaped it off and that's about it. I ordered iridium plugs but they wont be coming for a week or two but I will get to the plugs and coils this weekend and have a look at them, also ive seen a few people when they've gotten their coils out that they tape the coils up? should I do this ? cheers guys thanks for the help!
  13. Hey guys, I'm new here just recently purchased a r33 series 2 1996 skyline. Anyway a few days ago I decided to clean the engine bay just at the car wash, after doing so I've experienced extreme losses in power and definite misfiring problems. When im driving it almost sounds like a machine gun and has no guts when I put my foot down. The turbo still spools up and it cranks over fine on start up, so im with the idea ive either got water in my coils or in my plugs and more so leaning towards coils cause if it was in the plugs the car wouldn't crank over??. I was having slight misfiring problems before I washed the engine bay but that was only when I dumped the throttle and was most likely cause the old owner had the boost set on 14PSI with a stock ECU. Car is reasonably stock; just the usuals... 4inch Pod filter, hiflow exhaust, turbo timer and boost controller I have a new set of iridium plugs on their way but what do you guys think, will changing the plugs sort the issue? or if water did manage to make its way into the coils will it eventually evaporate off or do I need to replace the coils?. Also I'm not hugely experienced with mechanics done the odd job or two. If I was to replace the coils and the plugs is it simple enough to follow a tutorial and do it myself or should I leave it to a mechanic?. Cheers guys and thanks for the answers in advance! also sorry if I sound bit stupid I'm just a newby to turbos haha
