Im pretty sure they have sold the cvt boxes a long time ago but you might get lucky and they may have a cvt ecu...dunno.

Possibly contact an ecu specialist.. i think plms developments over there may be able to help but not sure if they do anything other than engine ecu's.

What a champion you are mate! Thanks a million! :)

I'll get in touch with them to see if they can sort me out.

Thanks again!

You should let them know if they can fix it then they may have some more customers if it ends up being a common fault on the cvt cars awell.

Maybe some of the autos might fail from this issue aswell who knows....

Strange though that the cvt ecu (that you would think would be different) possibly has the same issue as the autos....

****************************MAJOR UPDATE & CONCLUSION************************************************

YES! Finally fixed! After a month of horror and a long list of possible culprit, I finally figured out what was causing the problem.

The problem was...(drum roll) :FAULTY SPEED SENSOR

After spending a week at Tech Transmission with no end result and spent close to $500, I went and took the car to Jamie at Autoworkshop at welshpool cause i couldn't get an appointment soon enough with Fabcar. He hooked up a scan tool, recorded the datalog and told me to go for a drive. As soon as the car was jerky i took a look at the scan tool and the vehicle speed sensor was going haywire. Jumped from 50 to 75 dropped to 4 then finally made the transmission go on limp mode. Sure enough after that he retrieved a P0720 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) Error from the TCM. He had a wicked scan tool.

Got a replacement from Nissan ($300) and fitted it in today. Problem = Gone  I'm so happy i can eat a horse.

Here's the part no for the speed sensor: 31935 - 5P002

I hope this info would be useful to anyone who's experiencing the same problem.

Thanks to Jamie & Brett at Autoworkshop who diagnosed and tested everything on the car. Thanks to everyone here who’s helped.

Sorry for the long post, i'm just too excited right now, My baby lives again! :(

Thats great you got it sorted and gave the details on the problem and solution it just shows how important a good scan tool is with these modern ecu's.

I want to get myself a consult3 or equivalent at some stage.

I think I have a similar problem to what you had. Mine starts to jerk a bit then the tacho goes to 4000+ and stays there. No matter what gear i put it in, the tacho does not change. It's as though I'm driving in 2nd gear. Only way to get back to normal is to stop the car and restart.

Did you change the speed sensor yourself. If so was it much hassle and where is it located?

It sounds similar. But my tacho will go up as high as I want to rev it. My gear will get stuck in 2 or 3. While u may have a speed sensor problem, it could be something else as well.

My suggestion is take it to a good mechanic with a good scantool that's able to talk to the ecu/tcm. It should pull up a code You need that code to go on. Don't make the same mistake I did and try to guess the problem.

Btw the speed sensor is located on the gearbox itself. There's two of em. Input and output.

Goodluck let us know how u go

my cousins car is going through the problem in the limp mode and hes been to so many work shops and when they scan the car it comes up all dese codes which cant be erased and it has nothing to do with the solenoids ay but the codes said it does

P0720 VEH SPD SEN/CIR

P1762 D/C SOLENOID/CIRC

P1752 I/C SOLENOID/CIRC

Ok. Is the car a GT8 or 5sp Auto? Mine is a GT8. So while i'm sure it's exactly the same electrical wise,i can only give you advice based on my transmission.

I'd say that because the Speed Sensor code is at the top of the list might as well give that a fix first.

I recommend taking it for a test drive with the scan tool hooked up and logging the input from the speed sensors and the solenoids. When the problem occurs and the car goes to limp mode you'll definitely see what's causing it in the scan tool.

In my case the speed sensor started going haywire and giving erratic data to the ecu. That's why my car went to limp mode.

The speed sensor is located outside of the transmission housing itself. You need to have good access to the bottom of your car. The input is at the front and output (most likely the culprit) is at the back. You can't miss it.

If you wanna take a shot at fixing this your self firstly check the harness and continuity for the speed sensor (a multimeter would help) if you can rule this out then call any nissan dealer in your area and get a hold of this part : 31935 - 5P002 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) Picture attached.

The input and output uses the same part. So you can swap the input and output if one doesn't fix the problem. This should set you back at least $300.

Goodluck, post back when you have problems/result

    • T51R mod is an Antisurge slot. With exception that it has few extra legs on the base of it which makes a sound, and it needed to be inserted into the comp housing.
    • Is WHC34 a 2 wheel drive Stagea?  4wd Stagea 100% fits, and I'd say 99% sure 2wd will too....they just used the GTR setup as that best suited the wagon floor. BTW I hope you saw Brett's post about potential reasons for a leak, unless you can see the plastic cracked somewhere, it is unlikely to be the tank itself leaking.  Can you see fuel dripping or is it just a smell when you park? Have you had any of the tank/pump holder apart?
    • They did get back to me. First response is from the mechanic that did the work. The problem is that the information that followed wasn't in the original report, which again, I let car inspect know should have been provided and influenced my decision to buy. Ball is back in their court and they have 5 more days to respond.  The actual structural damage was not a complete write off as they had me originally believe.  It just needed to be corrected properly and cleanly as opposed to the botch job of whoever did it last on the rad support and undercarriage. Smoothed out the scrappy welds and did it properly plus painted.
    • Haven't updated this is a while. -5 speed conversion is done. Then center console, parking brake handle, and mounting bracket can be adapted from a R34 since the S2 parts are all disco. Console is a slightly different grain pattern and color but works fine. R33/ R34 GTS (no booster) clutch pedal works as well as the matching master cylinder. Wiring is simple, jump the starter connector at the fuse box, note which wires are connected at which position on the auto neutral safety switch and cut off the switch harness and connect to the corresponding switch on the 5 speed. -Rear R34 rear subframe swap is completed. Full Nismo arm set, 2-way LSD set up soft, 322mm Brembo brakes, Ohlins Flag-R coil overs (need to drop the spring rate 1Kg) -RB swap is under way. HKS Step 2 High Response 2.8 BCD stroker kit / Step 2 V-Cam / GTIII 4R Kit I may not use the 4R kit but not sure yet as I've seen some pretty decent dyno sheets on it and it doesn't spool as slow as people think when you have v-cam. I have the wiring manual for the car and a spare 260RS harness so the wiring shouldn't be that bad but I just haven't had the time to invest in it. If anyone has a suggestion for someone who can handle it let me know! I have a bunch of spare 5mt swap parts and some Nismo 580 turbos if anyone needs/wants them hit me up. Located in California but willing to ship. As always, thanks to all the members who have answered my questions and helped this project keep moving!
    • Did Car Inspect get back to you? How bad was the actual "structural" damage? What front surgery was required?
