'lost Birds' R33 Gtr

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, this is my first post so hello. I thought I'd join up on this site and get some good GTR info as well as post up the bits I have here and there. Moving on then. So here's my little paint project. Originally when I took delivery of the car, the front bumper had some slight damage on it. I was just going to repaint it silver, but somewhere along the way, I was asked by a close friend if they could try their hand at it. I knew this only meant things would get out of hand but I said okay. The artwork is by Allison La Valley of Lost Birds Art Studio (Portland, OR, USA) The car is in Misawa, Japan, where so far about 30 hours have gone into this. The plan is to finish the whole car by the end of February, so that will leave me time to build up the engine, etc before racing starts. I know some are going to hate that I allowed this, but remember it's just a car and as a matter of fact, there are 10s of 1,000s more just like it. Updates as they come!

pictures of the work so far.

i think it doesnt look too bad from a distance, especially the first shot of the front bar

however i myself having a slightly similar car, picturing that shit drawn all over it makes me cringe!

though as said above, each to their own

istdercollen: That is super cool. Not to many people have the balls to take a sharpie to they're car. It's hard to stand out with a skyline these days.... Well done!

I cant wait to see the whole car done.

I've seen the Lambo around Miami... It's very unique, but if you get close- the detail is a little rough.

Looks very different, mate! And she's very talented! Good work.

Although it'd be difficult to get to, doing the roof would look fantastic.

The roof will be last but it will get done for sure! Here's a cell pic of the current state of my living room. Haha.

thanks for the props! Most people seem to think it's neat. No one has said it sucked to my face yet. Lol. Honestly the reason I decided to do it was because I didn't want a silver GTR at all. I couldn't get my hands on a Midnight Purple so I settled for what was easy to find set on repainting it from the first moment. I thought that I might as well let Allison do her thing and if it sucks then repaint as originally planned, no harm done. So that's the mindset.

    • Yeah the Drift R wheels look awesome. They are pitted though, wonder if I can fix that somehow.
    • I picked up my diff today. Both their shop manager and machinist wanted to have a chat prior to me leaving. Conversation started with "Where did you buy these garbage parts? What's the name of the company?" They actually went on Speedtek's website during our conversation and made what I think is the best gear head joke I've ever heard after seeing they make straight cut gears. "They've probably only gotten away with selling straight cut gears as they'll make noise whether they're properly machined or not. People are none the wiser" The humor made the 2500$ in the hole I'm in after this whole experience a little better lol. They also pointed out that not only did they find identical issues on both ring and pinions that Speedtek had sent, but that by eye you can see the pinion teeth do not have the same profile from one end to the other.  They went on about this being the worst diff job they've ever done and how it was a colossal waist of time. Luckily after mentioning how I purchased another diff to learn how to assemble them, they were nice enough to give me a crash course on diff assembly on another diff they were currently doing. I like to tell myself they did this to be nice but deep down, I know it's to be extra certain they'll never see me there again lol.  Speedtek was pushing for a store credit but I'll never feel confident purchasing from them again due to their third world machining techniques and QC. I just asked for a full monetary refund.  I'll pop the diff back in this Friday and take it for a spin if the streets are clear of snow.
    • Hey any chance you still have this for sale or know someone that could help me out with tuning my stagea?
    • Haha, yeah parts will become much more expensive than the car in no time. Decent list of mods and I haven't seen a set of ROH Drift R wheels in a long time! They look great too. Helluva project, I'm jealous.
