Ur going to be playing catch up. Rob and Simon are going OP6 highflows as well. Both on 33's

Honestly people are always supprised. Highflowing gives the standard housing some real balls.

I think Tao's latest version best suits you Birds.

Its called the hyerdrier. Nice high power air out of the intercooler pipework to dry ya hair and NA goodnes. All 90rwkw!! Blistering.

I grabbed a SS1PU from Hypergear and it's been fitted to my R34 making 340RWHP, Damn does it make a difference, comes on solid and holds till redline. Cheers for the hard work on the turbo will keep you updated on how it goes on the track on sunday.

Got to be happy with that, a nice figure. Stao made slightly more on 2-3psi more boost but I doubt it would be that noticable between the two cars.

As long as its coming on as early as it should that should be one very quick skyline

I wonder what it is with a lot of these hg turbos not makin its desired power, ie with this turbo of 280rwkw, is it because of the IG and small actuator, as a lot of the car setups seem ok?? 340rwhp is more like 255rwkw, which is pretty short imho. Same power as some hiflows.. Stao's car seems to make great results tho, I'm saying cos I'm wanting to get one of these- HG or a Kando myself, just that some results seem disappointing.

Will i NEED a G3 to make at least 280? Thats what it seems like, to go one power level up to be sure of making the power level below it. I do not want the lag of the G3 to make 270-280 plus. And then reading the Garret threads, some of these guys are bored of the 'slow' 270rwkw and going for at least 300-320 on a road car...wtf??? I thought 270-280 is the sweet spot..

Choosing a turbo to suit your taste is best done by sitting in cars with them on, they are the hardest choice determined best by TRYING diff turbos on..not reading forums like me. Just my 2c. But i must say i like the lightswitch like power delivery of a tractor spec SR20DET S15 I drove once. True the initial lags not good but the sudden shove was great, it was a jap spec silvia, stock turbo, high boost. The RBs feel much more torquey down low and much smoother n more gradual power shove, which i find boring....but minus the nasty tractor noise... :)

The turbo is just a part, the control result is based on a car that has no restrictive or EPA components, healthy engine, quality supporting mods, tuned by one of the best tuners, so it should be the best as you can get with the turbo that is on it, control results are very achievable.

He already answered to that. and how welling are you making your car road legal?

He's also saying the results you are seeing are the maximum power can be archived. So SS1PU maxed out 280rwkws on 22psi, and 255rwkws on 17psi. G3 maxed out 330rwkws on 23psi and 280rwkws on 18psi. PU maxed out 303rwkws on 21psi, and I'm making 287rwkws on 19psi.

Depending on the mods you are welling to install, as well as the amount of boost you are comfortable to run.

It's just a number dude, don't get so hung up on it lol. In reality, a car with 280rwkw may only juuuust get ahead of a car with 260rwkw. There can be huge differences in power and the reality of it is that there won't be a massive difference in how they feel or how quick they are, it's milliseconds.

My tuner decided that he didn't want to run it at the 21 psi it was set to run he changed the preload down so it is at 17 psi, He confirmed that the numbers it could make were well above what it is now but he would rather wait till I do the metal head gasket as he isn't comfortable with running more than 17 psi on a stock motor.

It will be fine.

simon was running 25psi+ for months at the track with a big turbo with no issue

As others have said, you have to expect variation in results because every car, tuner and dyno is different. I didn't buy the turbo expecting my car to make the xxx rwkw that other cars make with HG turbos...if you do you will probably be disappointed, because there's a lot to so to extract every last kw out of the turbo. Tao went through with me the mods I should do to expect the most power. My goal is to keep my car looking inconspicuous and the trade off is that I may not make the power that a much more illegal looking car will, I'm content with that.

If it does then that's just a bonus of bragging rights, and if that's what matters most to you then you might as well go for the laggiest, number producing turbo you can get for guaranteed dyno queen status. I care more about my 0-100 time and drivability...I need useful midrange power, so as long as there is a big improvement there, then it will have been a worthwhile experience for me.

When people say they get bored of 270rwkw etc. these are usually the people who like the come on strong power, and if you're one for that, then yes it is easy to get used to the pull after a while. But there are plenty of these people who regret going higher and wish they'd stuck with the turbo they had before, after seeing how useless the extra power is on the street and the response sacrifice they've had to make for it. There's only so much you can do with big turbos and an unopened RB25 before you're no longer increasing the area under the curves and instead chasing dyno queen numbers or wheelspin in every gear at 11ty rpm.

And remember...255rwkw is before you introduce E85 to the equation...which can easily net you another 30rwkw+ and a better midrange. That's why I went for the SS1PU, because I didn't see the point of buying one that makes a laggy, wheelspinning 300rwkw on PULP when I can swap to E85 and do this with a more responsive, linear turbo. I'm excited!

The head gasket comment by the tuner is rubbish, the standard nissan head gasket has been proven to huge power with aftermarket engine builds. Lots of tuners prefer them over aftermarktet metal ones.

I understand if your tuner is worried about the standard engine overall. Does he have much experience with skylines? A lot of tuners that dont are hesitant to boost it too high as they are not aware of how strong they are.

Give it hell as it is for a few months and then take it back and demand the boost be raised :)

    • I'll rent a fuel pressure tester soon and report back. 
    • It has a separate fused 10ga wire running from the battery to the relay in the trunk. 10ga on the ground also. 
    • Actually I did the fuel pump rewire 2 days after the issues started. Grinded away the paint and grounded it to the chassis behind the right panel in the trunk. 
    • well, to check fuel pressure all you need is a gauge and a 8mm joiner with a gauge port in the inlet fuel line; if it stalls at idle when hot you can open the bonnet and check pressure at that time; the fuel pump is a potential cause for what you are describing but it could also be wiring to the pump getting hot. You haven't mentioned that the factory fuel flow control on the fuel pump earth is removed. So either way, it is worth running a suitably sized and fused wire from the battery to pin 30 in a new relay in the boot.  Use the ECU trigger wire into the standard fuel relay to pin 86. Earth relay pin 85 and the Fuel Pump negative (nice big wire for the latter too). Run relay pin 86 pin to Fuel Pump +. That will remove multiple possible fuel pump wiring issues in a 30+ year old car
    • I've been running a 525 for years with the standard hat and FPR in the stagea (mine has a 32 gtr fuel rail and stagea and 32 hat and tank setup are the same) without an issue with base fuel pressure. You said when you disconnected the return it is OK, did you do so at the fuel rail or the fuel hat? Either way I'd be looking for blockages or in the case of the tank kinks in the lines downstream Note I did however have an issue with the current required for the 460 melting the fuel hat.
