Hypergear Turbochargers and High flow Services Development thread

Recommended Posts

Little update:

This is from the very first ATR43SS1PU (or referred as a small trimed ATR43ss2) which was fitted to a R33 with rebuilt auto:

259boost.jpg

In general Auto would lose around 20~25kws depending on how it was treated. So manual result would be around the 280rwkws mark.

Any way, SS3 with .83 dual gate rear is built. Will be tuned this weekend, hopefully getting the 350rwkws+. The GenEses charger is almost ready, will post some photos later in the week.

When you say the auto is rebuilt do you mean a standard rebuild or it has been modified, been thinking about going auto just unsure how much rwkw they hold standard and how much needs to be done to them to hold around 300rwkw as a manual

Think MV's rate them to 320rwkw with just a shiftkit and big trans cooler

cheers

yes Auto spools faster and no boost lose during gear shift. They can sit there and do burn out all day.

yeah i drove a boosted auto r32 onetime and totally loved it..just floor it and hold on to the steering wheel while you drive down the road sideways :D

much better and faster for street and drag racing than manual...

Need ATR43G3 or G4 to work on the RB2530det. Not sure about SS3 in .83 but all other SS series are too small for that engine.

Heres my 30/25det with ATR4G3. Only revs to five grand as injectors ran out of flow and we were unable to get it to hold low boost to rev the thing out.

I will reupload once its tuned with new injectors to find out what it can really do.

I shit my pants on 19psi.

You do get used to it though, very quickly :( Already considering upgrading again. But the amount of money I would need to spend just to get 40-50 more hp, can't justify it at the moment. Maybe when I can afford to forge then I'll go all out.

You can get up to about 300rwkws safely on 98 fuel with stock engine. Ask Stao to upgrade it to a G3 with .82 rear housing, He's done it to a mate for $200. Very big difference in power delivery.

Which turbo do you have? I've got the ss2 and the feeling everytime gets me pumped. Do you run e85? Forging the motor won't give more power, only forge if it pops otherwise I'll be buying an rb30 block :)

Yes, I'm currently making about 260rwkw. Thing is with sending off my turbo for Stao to modify, I live in Perth... So that's a huge down time for my daily confused.gif

I've got the G2, .64 housing. It's still just as quick, it still scares the pants off any mates that get in my car. It's just that I'm used to it now, 350rwhp got old quicker than I expected :(

No E85 in Perth, not at the pump anyway. I know forging won't give more power haha, I meant that when I can afford it I might forge and go for 500+.

    • New R34 owned here (from the US) and found a gem, '98 GTT with ~6k miles, super clean & completely stock. When shifting there's no grinding, shifts smooth, etc. The concern I have are 2 things: 1) Only in 2nd and 3rd... when maintaining a slower speed (in traffic as an example) as I let off/on the gas, the shifter will slightly move and vibrate. If the clutch is engaged, none of this happens. It's not bad, but enough to feel like something isn't necessarily right. 2) This mainly happen in 4th or 5th... the shifter slightly bounces up and down, almost like it's riding on unbalanced tires (and I do think the tires are unbalanced as I get a little of that bounce feel at higher speeds, which is maybe why it only happens in 4th/5th). Lastly, and sorry for this noob question but I want to work on this car myself, can someone teach me some on these manual transmissions? Like servicing them, best products to use, etc.; would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
    • Coilovers aren't even the first step. Bushes, subframe position and alignment, HICAS elimination, adjustable upper arms and traction arms in order to dial out understeer. All these things need/deserve attention first. ARBs (There's no such thing as a swaybar. Please, everybody, stop calling them that) are useful if you want to limit spring stiffness. Otherwise you can control body roll with springs. Spring and damper rates are a function of road surface, speed and usage. There is no solution that works for all cases.
    • Define "nothing". Is the starter spinning but not the engine? Engine turning but not firing? If the engine is turning but not firing, then you are missing either fuel or spark. You need to find whichever has gone missing.
    • Shitbox Tiguan updates, got the APR OTS tune put back on (no charge for it to be removed/added back), didn't want to just come in just for that (not a fan of wasting people's time for nothing) so I purchased an APR dog bone insert. The boys at German Performance Garage said they would fit it for free too since they had 1x hoist free. Now that's service you don't normally get from most workshops. Anyhow, tune back on, snow grate pulled out, dog bone insert back in and not going to lie, a few smiles when I nailed it around the industrial area heading back onto the M7. Amayama also said 1 to 2.5 month wait for the RB25DE heater hose, yeah why not, car has been off the road for nearly 3, what's a other 2.5?
    • Hmm I'm going to approach this from the other side... What is the car doing that you don't like or what would you like the car to do that is currently isn't doing (handling wise that is)
