> SuperGT 2010: Season Opener This Weekend at Suzuka for Round 1
Posted by sewid - 20-03-10 08:49 - 0 comments

The GT500 Nissan R35 GT-R squares off against Honda’s newcomer HSV-10 equipped with an entirely new engine this weekend in the inaugural race for the SuperGT 2010 Championship Season! This race takes us to Suzuka Circuit for the annual Suzuka GT 300km race, a circuit where the R35 version of the GT500 GT-R began it’s outstanding racing career back in 2008. In that year it scored a momentous debut 1st and 2nd place victory. Since then the circuit has been kind to them, winning there again in 2008 during the Pokka 1000km enduro and scoring podium spots in both the 300km and 700km races there in 2009.

Honestly – while I’d love to be able to say I hope for a good clean and fair fight with the Honda’s… I’d rather be honest and say I’d rather see the Honda’s leave the circuit on cranes line this!

Go Nissan!

> SouthSide Performance?s Biggest Clutch Pack Upgrade Yet
Posted by sewid - 19-03-10 16:40 - 0 comments

Being the first to offer clutch upgrades 12 months back in March 2009, SouthSide Performance have continued to develop and innovate in the GT-R aftermarket and are now ready to release their biggest upgrade to the GT-R’s GR6 transmission so far.

This upgrade features a 14 disc upgrade which is claimed capable of supporting up to 1000lbft of torque. This enhanced torque capacity comes in part from the increase in discs over the standard 12 disc OEM clutches.

The upgrade clutch set also comes with Viton brand seals for the OEM clutch basket. The guys at SSP say with the Viton seals replacing the OEM type, the stock clutch basket setup should be good for up to the 1000 lbft mark. So unless you plan to launch the space shuttle into orbit with your car, I think you’ll be fine there.

Hit up the SSP website linked below to get in touch with the guys if you have any more questions, or post them up over on NAGTROC where they check in daily…

> Nismo Data Logging MFD Upgrades Officially Released and Priced
Posted by sewid - 17-03-10 19:57 - 0 comments

Well the official release is here for the Nismo Data Logging MFD upgrade for 2010 Nissan GT-Rs. The Nismo Data Logging MFD BASE kit is out as well as the various lap sensor kits we detailed in our previous post.

The way it works is you buy the BASE kit and receive two USB keys (one Nismo branded, one not branded) and one PC CDROM. You insert the Nismo branded USB key at startup to kickoff software installation into your GT-R’s MFD computer. From here on in you can begin saving data logs to USB memory for the following sensors:

  • Vehicle Speed
  • Engine Speed (RPM)
  • Gear Position
  • Lateral G-Force
  • Acceleration and Braking G-Force
  • Boost Pressure
  • Brake Pressure
  • Steering Angle
  • Throttle position
  • Engine Temperature (coolant)
  • Engine Oil Temperature
  • Transmission Oil Temperature

Once you’ve got the data saved to memory you fire up the old PC with the provided data analysis software loaded to read it back.

Surprisingly the actual main piece is reasonably priced at 26,250 yen and is available from Nismo workshops like Omori Factory as well as NHPCs in Japan. At this time this does not include the GPS sensor integration but that is coming soon.

Nismo’s other MFD integrated products are also released and priced today, namely the two Nismo Lap Sensor Kits. These are priced at 78,750 yen for the Type-M version which relies on your racetrack supporting the magnetic sensor mechanism. Alternatively the Type-B is available which suits any racetrack for 108,150 yen.
