SuperGT series 2008 round 5 kicks off tomorrow as practice starts up at Sports Land SUGO circuit in Miyagi Prefecture just south of Sendai on the east coast of Japan. The 3.7km circuit is familiar to the GT500 GT-R drivers having practiced there earlier in the year. Rain is forecast for the weekend though so it’s going to be a tough one for the drivers.

As usual, many of the GT-Rs will be penalised for their success in previous races, having come first and second in all but one race this season. These weight penalties have been announced by the SuperGT governing body - GTA - earlier in the week and stand at:

  • #23 XANAVI GT-R - Weight Handicap +75 kg
  • #22 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R - Weight Handicap +40kg
  • #24 WOODONE ADVAN Clarion GT-R - Weight Handicap +50kg

The #12 Calsonic and #3 YellowHat GT-R’s have no weight penalty this round. Is this their chance to take the 1-2 victory? Stay tuned to GTRBlog.com to find out!
