Hey all, tax return time has come around again.
I have lined myself up some upgraded cams, just wondering do i need a new ECU to go with it. As im fairly sure the stock ecu wont take it or wont be tunable enough to get all the power gains. Any info would be great guys. |

what mods do you have now? the stock cams wont be giving you too much of a restricition if you just have basic mods as it is (which is probably the case if you're running stock ecu), its probably better to spend that money else where.
if you already have the basic catback and CIA setup, maybe go for some headers, or get you ecu "chipped" so it can be tuned, either of those options will give you better gains then dropping in some cams in an otherwise stock engine also, i would also think of other areas besides just the engine to spend money on. If its a gts, try and source the gtst brakes which would give you much improved braking, or if your suspension is fairly stock get some upgraded springs/shocks or get a new adjustable coilover, or sway bars etc... depending on how much you are willing to burn (yes burn because you wont get it back, its all fun though), cams probably isnt the best option -------------------- IS BOOST IS GOOD

its a work in progress.
Already have extractors cia, pod. Cams and head will be done in one go. then coil overs. thats the plan. I just dont want to stuff around with the standard ecu. plus the computer can be transferred from car to car. so i might actually get some use out of the computer. |

Cams are really a waste unless you want 280kW+, have a laggy ass turbo or are adamant to have fat response.
To bother with buying them, fitting them, retuning = for any less power you won't see a massive gain over stock cams IMO. But if it's part of your mod plan then go for a decent set (HKS, Tomei). Cheers -------------------- ![]() RENAISSANCE |

What about a port and polish before hand? Then Cams?
With a port and polish you could easily get away with using just an SAFC. Port and poilish will require the head coming off and buying a new head gasket.. but you will see more of gain there and will give cams (if you choose to do so down the road) more of kick up the arse.. especialy with a set of adjustable cam gears too. -------------------- 4Door Love.. In that case cams (and yes a P&P too) and gears would be a great addition. You're going to obviously want the extra lift from bigger cams to squeeze more air/fuel in, and if you ported it that would reduce the restriction on that process and you'd get more out of the setup. Good luck champ. -------------------- ![]() RENAISSANCE |

You can always get our cam re-grinded.. its about $200 odd oer cam.. so it saves you $200 for an adjustable cam gear. or Apexi SAFC and tune..

yes you will need an ECU upgrade.....unless someone has already said that didnt see anything along those lines tho
thats the one thing im glad i did last year....i got a Apexi Power FC.......this will now allow me to do so much to the car and know that anything i want to in the future i am already set up with the ecu. but when i was talking to my mechanic/dyno guy he did say that a aftermarket ecu would be needed. i cant wait till i get my cams -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() DZIGNFX 8351 8115 SOUTHERN HITECH DYNO 8277 4400 ADELAIDE TYREPOWER 8410 1312 EXHAUST TECHNOLOGY 8272 7500 |

Good to see you turning it into a beast
I heard this deep sounding 33 arrive at DA a month back, looked over and it was you! Did you free up the exhaust even more or was it always that loud? If it were me btw, I'd go coils first. While cams and a port and polish will give a bit more grunt, a decent set of coil overs will have you out handling a few few other cars on the road. -------------------- Mikyel - "so just do ur time, pay the fine, and dont do it again or i wish u DEAD or being paralysed.."

Hey man.
I think she has always been that loud. Wats the DA? Well so far im just going by the list, First was clutch-then cams and computer- then coil overs. its probly in reverse order but it works for me. Hows your pig going? |
