As Per Precious Discussion regarding ACA and the way Police and Media Protray Us/Enthusiasts as Hoons - Please Keep it relivant and forward thinking---- From the stuff on here we want to resolve the opinions and make it Clearer to the public.... and hopefully the media and police. We are a very large community and with that should come some power to clear these issue up.... why hasnt it happened?................................... Lets begin.

------------------------------------------Previous Posts-----------------------------------------------------

These types of discussions go on forever. Has anyone actually approach this the same way the police do... i.e. approach the media regarding harassment. We seem to fully understand the reason that there are hoons but the prime targeting to imports...... id really like to see the stats.....

Now I am not volunteering to personally take this further, as a mature older face may be a better approach... but I am willing to help out in anyway possible. enough threads here to make up a document to send to the today tonight crew or something similar... even if its just to get feed back from them about our concerns and if its worth approaching. At least we'll know.

If we gather the information together it would be fine... I have got video and ref regarding a make a wish day, when I gave a cancer patient a ride in my 33... I've got pics and local paper reports of BBQ's were all the import owners in my old area used to meet up and donate a gold coin to charity.... the McDonalds in my old town used to love us.. We couldn’t get enough of the kids coming out to awwww at our cars. While we grabbed a feed... dropped of donations ECT.....

We should be collecting..... Ill contribute money to someone that would want to seriously approach this on behalf of the enthusiast community.

Maybe we should start a thread regarding it.

ok. basically i emailed aca within the lines of something like: it was a bit one sided, were not all hoons, bla bla bla bla bla. i also highlighted theyre tendancies to steal video's from youtube with japanese images. and also speeding up the camera 2x normal speed.

and this is what i got. take from it what u will.

Hi there.

Thanks for your email regarding the hoon story. You'll be interested to know half of the "common car hoons" I interviewed for the story have thanked me for not portraying them as complete hoons!

FYI, we weren't expecting to run into any car enthusiasts and all 3 groups of people interviewed in the story approached us, it wasn't the other way around.

Here's the response I got from one of the young guys:

Subject: Kate Donnison - Thanks

Name: Jago

Address: Tallai, Gold Coast

Your Story: Hi Kate,

Appreciate the story for at least not portraying myself and Adam as 'complete' hoons! :-)

Jago

....You'll be pleased to know they all frequent boostcruising.com, as did I throughout the duration of the story and the guy who sent the thank you is known as "retarded monkey"! They were concerned they would be misquoted and they weren't because they all spoke like reasonable intelligent young people.

The one guy who had a go at Dawn, did so of his own accord and came looking for us..cameras and all! Clearly he's giving the rest of you a bad name.

The majority of emails we've had were positive because people could see the "common car hoons" were at the very least, suggesting a solution!

Once again, thanks for your response...negative or not we appreciate all feedback!

Regards,

I believe that the issue is that they don’t really want to hear our side of the story. They have given the public an opinion on enthusiasts, Imports owners and younger generation drivers to play on. The stuff they show I find is quite repetitive.

When I say that they don’t want to hear our side of the story I mean it’s clearly written in there letter.... they never approached us we had to approach them. These ACA stories require a lot of research and I believe that they are heading into the stories that they show with that same opinion as they portray.

Something needs to be done.......... and it begins now!

Well maybe try & interest them in a track day or similar. Give people the opportunity to explain to ACA or whomever that there is a responsible way of enjoying your hoon mobile, err, Skyline. Explain the extent to which people go to do the right thing. Explain how you are trying to fix the bad image.

In other words basically write the story for them...

If they can make a story about an old lady blocking access to a public park surely they can make a story about a "hoon" or "hoons" organising a track day for other "hoons" for a small fee. Try and show them your really passionate about our car's and are not interested in doing skids for the chicks on public streets.

I am going to try an push this a far as i can.

about the track days.. the 65 dollor nights that they have here in melbourne. i couldnt belive it. the direction im heading is if a goverment subsidy was given to the organisation to to lower the fee even more.. and/or opening more regulary then what it does to the public that would definatly attract a broader group. they could move money (obviously not all of it) from the Anti-Hoon program to the........ hoon management program.....

Bare with me im just throwing things around to do up a report/proposal. i would gladly represent enthusiasts. but ill need some help.

Give up on that idea.

The government (centrelink aside) is not going to give you money to go racing.

Ever.

Show them how much effort you put into doing the right thing but don't ask for anything other than to be left the fk alone and not targetted & villified for liking cars.

That is as much as you can hope to get.

Now we're thinking. This is the stuff that needs to be done. We all enojy our cars, we should show the uninformed public (through the media) that the focus is on the cars and having fun, not causing trouble and doing burnouts (my tires are too expensive to be replacing every other day :S). If WE come forward with a solution or atleast ideas, it may then allow a positive spotlight to be shon in our direction.

As said earlier.. just throwing Ideas around heres another

Im Doing some research into the track days that are hosted around australia and the frequency and cost. Trying to find a reason why "hooning" seems to be so bad...... if it is at all.... maybe it just highlighted more often.

in a news report regarding queensland, since 2004 they have caught 1700 approx people under the new(not that new) hoon laws. if we can get out that we want to make a differance and get extra 4 people a week to go to a track day, taking pride and show stopping there car, promoting relivant proven clubs.. so they can vent there hooness, thats 832 people less likely to commit the offence on public roads.... and thats in 1 state..... alot of people dont think of another solution to racing on the road because they dont know about it. if we can show how large the car enthusiast community is and how much we want to lower the level of hoons on the roads... and do it publicly..... i think the support will follow.

Don't try & defend "hoons". Don't go down that road. You may aswell try & defend kiddie fiddlers.

Try & differentiate yourself (selves) from the hoons, ie we are car enthusiasts not hoons.

This is what we do (track days etc). It is grown up & responsible & we would like others to join in etc.

That sort of thing.

^^^^^^^^^^ point taken. cheers.

maybe if i head down the direction of portraying enthusiasts and what we do at the moment.... instead of what we would like to see happen.... if that makes sence(doesnt in my head lol)... like in may case.... charity work that involved the car.

ill try my best to portray us.... as people..... ACA portrays the community as vitcums.. but at the same time making us enthusiasts victums..... we are in a far differant mindframe then those they describe as hoons... And so are our actions we take to enjoy our cars...... <------ thats a better line... sounds cornie i know

Anymore sugestions

There use to be a 1/4 mile race track at the gold coast area years ago, where you had to pay a small fee to race and it was shut down due to the excess fighting and idiots racing around that whole area. The whole race track idea would be great if someone had the money to open a track as the Government will definitly not go down that path, some family members ended up trying to sue the Government for there family members death (on the 1/4 mile) as they said the Government were encouraging racing on and off the track.

Another guy who had a race facility on his yard out away from town where there was no residents living in the area on a massive block. He opened his place up to allow people to race and had a sign do so at your own risk ect. and had to lock it up at nights after a kid died in the area and the family tried to sue him, he said he had a sign up and they were better off there then on the streets.

The Government will never give money for a race track anywhere near the area and all the media is concerned about is their TV rating they don't care what view they give as long as people watch, and Hoons are just a easy target and will be forever more.

Being proactive and organising track days and doing fundrasiers is about the only and best thing to do as it takes people off the streets and lets them do it in a safer environment and the findraising gives back to the community.

there is a thread for the ACA show that was on.... dont mean to be rude....

At work I recently spoke to a group that is trying to push and promote a program in the health department. Im thinking it the very big picture but I think we could head down a similar path. I don’t know any car community (soarer.com, Nissan Silvia club, Skylines Australia, etc) that would not support it.... and I don’t mean money wise (that ill do off my own back). But I was thinking of designing a website that promotes Stories Articles in relation to the car enthusiast community.

e.g.:
- Auto salon and impact on community
-Weddings - A lot of ours cars have been in one... and most of the time for nothing.
- Charity events..... There has to at least one a year. lol
- positive impact stories.... e.g. Kids flooding out of maccas and enthusiast were willing to let kids watch shrek on there awesome DVD screens. lol

Im sure there’s plenty we could put on it. Plus we could use it as our back bone for our cause….. (this is sounding poxy but only because im taking it seriously)

face it......we are hoons - i took my jazz gli and went on 2 wheels in front of the cops......they dropped their donuts and chased me on foot - ended in tragedy when the jazz crashed. But just before it crashed, i blasted out of the hatch on a tricycle, drifted past the cops, did a couple of donuts, and then did a wheelie and sped off.....now thats hoonage - not that ACA video crap
